Sir James Hector

Arriving in NZ in 1862, Sir James Hector conducted a 3-year geological survey from Otago; in Wellington, he became Director of the Colonial Museum; he identified NZ's natural resources; he was responsible for the NZ Institute; was Chancellor of the University of NZ1885-1903 and founded the colony's first scientific journal. He died in 1907.
