Updating the subsurface geology of South Dunedin
Speaker: Phil Glassey, Engineering Geologist / Risk Reduction Scientist, GNS

In 2019, several organisations (GNS Science, NZSeaRise programme, EQC, ORC, DCC, University of Canterbury, University of Otago, Oceana Gold) funded a variety of subsurface investigations in South Dunedin to determine geotechnical properties, depth and geometry of the sediment in-fill, groundwater conditions, and geometry of the bedrock. South Dunedin is a case study site for the NZSeaRise programme which aims to determine the impacts of global sea level rise on the coasts of New Zealand. The data has updated the current geological model of South Dunedin including updating the geometry of the bedrock, the characteristics of the materials and groundwater property beneath South Dunedin.

The updated model and inferences it is based on, along with insights into the characteristics of the subsurface materials and groundwater will be presented by Phil Glassey of GNS Science.

Drinks and nibbles from 5.30pm, presentation from 6pm
